Obituary for Henry S. Newman

Henry S.  Newman
Henry S. Newman, 94, of Denver (formerly of Wyomissing), entered into rest at his residence following a lengthy illness on Saturday, February 26, 2011.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Henry S. Sr. and Marion Catharine Joyce Newman. He was married 76 years to Ethel S. (Showalter) Newman.

Henry was a member of Faith United Evangelical Lutheran Church, Denver, where he was involved in financial and building projects over the years. He was a graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School and had attended Columbia University. Henry volunteered for the Census Bureau, Meals on Wheels, and served on the board of directors for the Pottstown Hospital. He was a member of the Adamstown VFW Post 8795 and enjoyed genealogy and reading as hobbies.

Henry served in the U. S. Army during WWII and had worked as a plant manager for Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. in Pottstown, retiring in 1979 after 33 years of service. After retirement, he worked for Omega Labs where he developed a medical waste disposal system while employed there.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Robert H., husband of Margot (Kappes) Newman of Douglassville; and Michael A., husband of Kathy (Pate) Newman of Fremont, NC; his sister-in-law, Beulah (Burkett) Newman of New Jersey; 8 grandchildren: Rene A., wife of Craig Fahr; Susan M., wife of John Summers; Todd, husband of Ragan Newman; Mark H., husband of Beverly Newman; Kristen M. Sensenig; Shanna L., wife of Jason Corbett; Allison C., fiancée of Elijah Pipkin and Lindsay N., wife of Trey Stangel, 12 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert J. Newman and his sister, Marian C. Hedenberg.

A viewing will be held from 9 to 10 AM on Wednesday, March 2 at Faith United Evangelical Lutheran Church, 357 Walnut Street, Denver, where funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM with Pastor Joseph A. Veres officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reading with full military honors.
